Intimate Fall Wedding in Canmore
When Nicole and Kyle told me about their cozy , intimate wedding planned for October in Canmore, I was totally smitten. Last year, we captured their engagement at the beautiful Nose Hill provincial park.
From the bride:
Kyle and I met like so many couples do today – at work. After finishing University in Kelowna, I moved out to Calgary, and within about 2 weeks had a new job at SMART Technologies. About a year later, Kyle joined SMART and ended up working in the same department as me. What’s funny about this story is the first day we met was actually the day of Kyle’s first interview at SMART. I was lost trying to find the correct meeting room for a meeting I was late for, and Kyle was walking into the same room I found myself in. After a short introduction, I took off. But after Kyle was hired – we instantly remembered each other and became good friends and colleagues. As time went on, our friendship grew quickly, and before long, we fell in love.
Kyle and I have spent fun weekend getaways together at one of our favorite spots in the Rockies, so it was only fitting that Kyle planned his proposal to me at Rimrock in Banff. Following a work trip, Kyle planned a fantastic weekend getaway for us to Rimrock in February 2014. During a phenomenal meal we were enjoying at Eden restaurant at Rimrock, in front of a restaurant full of onlookers, Kyle got down on one knee.
Our wedding colours were pewter and gold. We chose these colours because we wanted something that would be fairly neutral and complimentary of all the beautiful colours of fall that we would be surrounded by in such a natural setting at Stewart Creek in Canmore. Plus, everyone looks great in pewter!
There are few moments on our wedding day that stand out for me and Kyle. The first is our first look photos. Not only was this a really special moment for us being able to see each other for the first time on our special day, but I think having that hour together – just the 2 of us was really memorable. We knew that the day would be busy and filled with visiting with our guests, so it was important to us to carve out that time to be alone and celebrate our day in our own special way prior to all the festivities.
Another moment is the wedding ceremony. Exchanging our personalized vows was so special for us both. I think we both thought we’d be a lot more nervous during the ceremony – but as soon as I got down the aisle, we were standing facing each other and without even having to say the words – just in that glance we both knew how to calm each other and remembered what that day was all about. The nerves faded, we were present and just shared that moment. It’s something I will always remember and cherish.
There are so many more fun memories – from getting ready for our special day with our bridal party, to celebrating with our closest friends and family, to a phenomenal meal and such touching and memorable speeches, to our dances with my Dad and Kyle’s Mom. We’ll remember all of it, and feel so blessed to have had such an incredible day surrounded by so much love.
After trying on way more wedding dresses and styles than I care to admit, I found “my dress” – and truthfully, it was the opposite of what I “thought” I wanted. I never thought I’d end up in a ball gown, and never wanted strapless. But as many brides know, sometimes the style you think is for you is a bit underwhelming once you get it on. My dress is one of my favorite details because for me, it was so unexpected. The color (sterling) was stunning with fall colors as the backdrop, and the fun details the designer put into it were just exquisite. Being a bit on the petite side, I had to have a few rounds of alterations done to get it to fit just right.
