Sunset Engagement in Calgary

Sunset Engagement in Calgary

There are two things I absolutely love. Sunsets in Calgary, and Engagement sessions (hehe). So combining the two is extra fun! Carlie, Brandon, and their absolutely adorable puppy Arthur came down to Calgary from Edmonton to spend the evening jaunting around with me (and more than a billion mosquitos!)

When I had my Skype meeting with Carlie and Brandon  I knew right away that I wanted to be a part of their special day! They are such a sweet, fun-loving couple. You can see in their eyes how much these two adore each other … I can’t wait for their wedding next year in the Rocky Mountains! Read more from Carlie and Brandon below.

How we met:

Brandon and I met the good ‘ol fashion way… out at a bar on a Saturday night! My friend had bluntly pointed out “look at that hot guy at the bar” and apparently that was all of the convincing I needed to march on over and talk to him. It turned out that he was there with a handful of people that I knew and that we had gone to the same high school. We spent the rest of the night talking and I’m pretty sure I dragged him onto the dance floor once or twice against his will. We had our first date a couple of weeks later and I guess you could say it went pretty well!

The proposal:

The proposal was a huge surprise for me. Although we had discussed it I was not anticipating it to a) happen so soon or b) to be on a Sunday after a big night out. That morning Brandon went golfing and honestly I stayed in bed for most of the afternoon nursing myself back to health… The last thing on my mind for that Sunday was leaving the house, so showering and getting ready were not even a thought. So when Brandon got home and suggested we take Arthur (our dog) for a walk I told him that maybe I would sit this one out.

He suggested that some fresh air might be good for me so I probably grunted in agreement, threw on sweats and sunglasses and shuffled my way down the sidewalk.  When we got to the pond by our house I noticed Brandon was fidgeting with Arthur’s collar. Not paying much attention I asked him what he was doing and he told me that there was something on it. I then noticed that there was a carabiner on his collar that I had never seen before. I started racking my brain trying to figure out if I picked up the wrong collar at some point or who would have put that there, it just didn’t make sense.

Obviously not getting the hint, Brandon had to encourage me to go and see what it was (d’uh right?) He had hung the ring on Arthur’s collar and when I turned back around he was on his knee. I think I may have ruined that moment too because through my shock and momentary incomprehension of what was actually going on I again repeated “what are you doing”? It finally sank in and I started to cry and then was reminded that I should probably go and take the ring off of the collar.  Oh and I said yes!! 🙂 We are so excited for our wedding at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel!
