Engagement Story
Landan and I first met in grade two and eventually ended up dating after high school for 8 years prior to our engagement in August 2021. We got engaged at the very spot that we were photographed together those many years ago in grade 2, Fort Edmonton Park. Landan recreated the very same scene in the photo for his proposal. Under the guise of his grandmother “needing” me to accompany her and two of his younger cousins to Fort Edmonton Park, he planned the entire day. He mentioned he had hockey game that day and would not be able to join us. Unbeknownst to me, everyone was in attendance hiding in the old buildings of the courtyard awaiting my arrival. As we turned the corner of the courtyard, Landan was coming towards me and now in hindsight paused at the same place we had taken our pictures those many years ago. Confused, I went up to him asking if the game had been cancelled and he had decided to join us? It was only then, that he dropped down on one knee and asked me to be his wife! Many pictures were taken to commemorate this momentous occasion and we recreated our first photo!
Wedding Day Details
Our wedding day was absolutely magical and the sun shone just for us. However, the weather did not start out that way. Heavy raining and floods persisted all week including the day before the wedding when the temperature dropped to a chilly 4 degrees, including hail and rain. We were distressed as our vision for an outside wedding was quickly fading away. God must have been looking out for us because the next morning as I opened my curtains, the sun beamed through and the day was a beautiful. It allowed us to have the day of our dreams!
We wanted an intimate wedding and wanted our guests to have a mini vacation as well. We choose Azuridge as a perfect destination wedding venue. It was close enough to Edmonton, yet far enough that our guests could spend the weekend and enjoy the festivities. We had a welcome dinner on Thursday, brunch, golf and hiking on Friday, followed by our rehearsal dinner in the evening. We had a leisurely start to the Saturday morning, followed by the wedding ceremony on the grounds and festivities until the wee hours of the morning. Sunday was the farewell brunch and departure. To this day, when we congregate everyone talks about the weekend, Azuridge and our special day!
We invested time in creating our unique logo which we used throughout the wedding day. To start, we wanted to thank our guests prior to the wedding day for making the trip out. We surprised everyone with custom logo welcome boxes in their rooms, filled to the brim with our favourite items from Las Vegas. Each item was a nod to something we fell in love with on our many trips there visiting Landan’s parents.
The day of the wedding; our guests were greeted with champagne topped with custom wafer toppers imprinted with the logo. Once seated guests were given both “happy tears Kleenex” and dried flowers for throwing on our grand exit! Both items were in individual custom envelopes imprinted with our logo. As we are both fans of gin & tonic, we had a lit ice luge. The Empress gin has a purple hue that intensified with the lit luge. Given Landan’s career in hockey and the use of tobacco by most hockey players, I wanted to incorporate this favourite of his and surprised him with a Tobacco stand. We had purchased cigars & chewing tobacco from our travels and had some imported from Austria, where Landan played. I had custom personalized tins for our guests. We even used a refurbished antique ashtray stand dating over 100 years. It belonged to Landan’s great, great grandmother! To say Landan was moved by this gesture is an understatement.
We had a vintage 1968 powder blue Mustang as our wedding vehicle. Not only is it stunning, but also very sentimental to us as a very close family friend allowed us to use it and drove it down personally. It was an instant hit and acted as a backdrop for many photos.
