Chaise and I met 7 years ago randomly at a mutual friends house party and we shared an instant connection with each other. I felt immediately like I had known him my whole life and I kept asking him all night “are you sure we haven’t met before?”. We started hanging out pretty much every day after that and have been inseparable since. Neither one of us was looking for a relationship but we both fell hard, we didn’t know it then but we really needed to find each other and I’m so happy it happened when it did. Things between us moved very fast, we moved in together quickly and I got pregnant with our first child within our first year together.

We had been together for 5 years with 2 little boys together already and I of course couldn’t wait for the day he finally proposed. On Christmas day in 2018 we went to my sisters house for dinner and my entire family was there. We had stayed up very late the night before and I kept dozing off on the couch when Chaise told me he had one more present for me. He took me by the hand and led me in front of my family, got down on one knee and asked to marry me. I didn’t even say yes, I just fell into his arms and shouted out “OBVIOUSLY!”. It was so special to have my entire family there to witness our engagement.

We had been engaged for 2 years before we finally tied the knot. We decided at the beginning of 2020 that this would be the year we finally made it happen no matter what and began our planning. Shortly into the year covid struck and it completely derailed all of our existing plans. We knew that we still wanted to get married no matter what it looked like, even if it meant it was just us and our children. We recognized that the focus of the wedding shouldn’t about have a grand party, but its ultimately about our marriage and commitment to each other. Thankfully we found beyond the proposal wedding planning and she made our dreams a reality in every way, down to every detail. The restrictions lifted slightly just in time for our wedding day and we were able to have a small wedding but still included all of our immediate family. The smaller number of guests made it so intimate, we were able to spend time with everyone and never felt rushed. The whole day ended up being more perfect than we could have imagined and way better than our original pre-covid plans. We had our ceremony in the garden at Bow Valley Ranche. Then we had a small separate outdoor reception at a family friends acreage.

It’s so hard to chose a favourite part of our day as it really was perfect in every way. We are ultimately so grateful that it was even able to happen due to the circumstances at the time. If I had to chose it would be watching our sons carry the rings down the aisle together and hearing Chaises vows. As well as my first dance with my husband, plus my dad and I choreographed a first dance together which was so much fun to surprise everyone with. Chaises favourite part was watching me walk down the aisle, exchanging our vows and officially becoming husband and wife. We wish that we could relive the whole day over again and again!
