Sunset Winter Engagement in Calgary
Nathan and I met in 2011 through mutual friends (Nate went to school with my sister’s now-husband so our friend circles overlapped), but we didn’t start dating until late-2012, when, with a little matchmaking help from my sister and her husband, things clicked for us! We were mostly long-distance in the beginning due to Nathan’s job, but we made it work, and in 2014 we left Sherwood Park and moved down to Calgary together!
We got engaged in May of 2016 in Metchosin, British Columbia – my grandparents used to live out there, so I’ve been travelling to that area since I was a kid. Nathan had never been out that way, so we took a trip there in 2015 and we found an amazing bed and breakfast that we both loved. When we were looking at taking another short trip in May 2016 we both really wanted to go back, so off we went. On our second day there, we decided to take a hike to a waterfall nearby, so we packed up a backpack and started walking. When we got to the waterfall we wanted to sit down and have a bite to eat and a drink, but there were two other people there, and Nathan refused to stop if we weren’t alone. Not understanding what was going on, I let him lead us to a secluded lookout where instead of pulling our snacks out of the backpack, he pulled out a ring and proposed! Needless to say, we were both very happy and spent the day celebrating. We already had a nice dinner planned for that night, but when they found out what happened the owners of the B&B called ahead and let the restaurant know and we were given the best table in the house, with a nice bottle of wine! It really was the perfect day!
We are planning a small wedding with primarily just family in attendance. What we are looking forward to the most is getting the chance to spend our wedding day surrounded by the people we love!
