How to Plan Your Engagement Session
Wondering how to plan your engagement session? You’re not alone. We always tell our clients that planning their photos should be fun! Come up with ideas for your session is a shared experience and that’s what makes it work so well. We’ve had the privilege as Calgary and Vancouver wedding and engagement photographers to plan many engagement sessions over the years. They are a great way to get to know your photographer and start to feel comfortable in front of the camera.
Booking Your Session
Planning an engagement session is like planning a wedding on a tiny scale. Achieving romantic, editorial engagement photos doesn’t happen without a bit of effort from both clients and their photographer. We always suggest having at minimum two weeks of lead time prior to your session to have time for shopping, get ideas flowing and plan in place.
Wardrobe
Your clothing at your engagement session should be elevated from your day to day wear, but still reflect your personality. For the most romantic photos, we always recommend a dress or gown. Not everyone is comfortable in this style however, so your photographer will help you to achieve a style that compliments you and is cohesive with your location. We recommend staying in touch with your photographer while shopping for wardrobe options so that they can offer their expertise.
Location
The location of your engagement photos influences what you wear as well. Outdoorsy, nature vibes are more suited to flowing, romantic dresses. An urban engagement session might call for something like a more form fitting dress or more modern lines.
We hope these tips help you plan an editorial, romantic engagement session. Remember to have fun!
