Romantic Hastings Lake Gardens Wedding
This Edmonton wedding at Hastings Lake Gardens was so beautiful. I love being a Calgary wedding photographer, but photographing in Edmonton is always a treat!
Krista and Nathan are an absolutely amazing couple! They are so laid back and I am pretty sure we laughed all the way through our engagement session and straight through the wedding day! They compliment each other so beautifully in every way and I am so thrilled to have had the honour of being their wedding photographer.

From Krista + Nathan:
We got engaged in May of 2016 in Metchosin, British Columbia – my grandparents used to live out there, so I’ve been travelling to that area since I was a kid. Nathan had never been out that way, so we took a trip there in 2015 and we found an amazing bed and breakfast that we both loved. When we were looking at taking another short trip in May 2016 we both really wanted to go back, so off we went. On our second day there, we decided to take a hike to a waterfall nearby, so we packed up a backpack and started walking. When we got to the waterfall we wanted to sit down and have a bite to eat and a drink, but there were two other people there, and Nathan refused to stop if we weren’t alone. Not understanding what was going on, I let him lead us to a secluded lookout where instead of pulling our snacks out of the backpack, he pulled out a ring and proposed! Needless to say, we were both very happy and spent the day celebrating. We already had a nice dinner planned for that night, but when they found out what happened the owners of the B&B called ahead and let the restaurant know and we were given the best table in the house, with a nice bottle of wine! It really was the perfect day!
We started with a vision of an intimate garden-inspired wedding surrounded by our family and closest friends, and we were so happy with how everything turned out. From the ceremony at the beautiful Hastings Lake Gardens, to the cozy reception at my childhood home, we were dedicated to giving our 54 guests a memorable experience, complete with great food and wine.
We wanted the focus of the day to be on family, and were both honoured to wear jewelry that had been passed down in our families; Nathan wore a watch passed on to him from his Grandpa, and I wore a necklace which has been passed down in my family for nearly one hundred years. Additionally, we loved all the hand-made touches that helped make the day extra special: my garter, the frame used as our guestbook, and the wine box which was part of our ceremony.
The highlight of our day was seeing each other for the first time when walking down the aisle – a moment that was made extra special by Nathan’s talented aunt singing a lovely song for us as we walked in.
After the ceremony, we broke out the champagne and celebrated with our wedding party, taking full advantage of the beautiful scenery offered at Hastings Lake Gardens for our formal photographs. By the time we got to the reception, we were ready to relax and continue the celebrations with our guests. The food truck that served dinner was delicious, and helped us maintain the casual vibe we were aiming for. It was an evening filled with lots of fun and laughter, and everything came together exactly as we had hoped, making our planning efforts well worth it! It was an unforgettable day, we are so happy to be husband and wife, and we are looking forward to our Hawaiian honeymoon in a few months!
