Downtown Calgary Engagement

Downtown Calgary engagement sessions are so fun!

Kelsey and Joel are seriously adorable! From the moment we sat down for drinks I was totally captivated. Joel’s calm, quiet personality compliments and grounds Kelsey’s bubbly, outgoing side. For their engagement session we decided to walk around downtown Calgary and explore. Walk we did! These two are absolute troopers, and we walked for a solid couple of hours having some great chats. (During which we discovered our mutual love of ice cream and bad tv programs!) Downtown Calgary is bold and vibrant, but in the evening lends itself a beautiful softness that was perfect for our engagement session. I can’t wait to shoot their wedding! A little bit about the bride and groom’s story below!

From Kelsey:

We met at the University of Lethbridge when we were both getting our music degrees. We knew each other in our first year, but I started pursuing him in our second year when I realized how big his muscles got over the summer between first and second year  ;).  We went on our first date in March of the second year and the rest is history. We stuck together through both of our degrees in Lethbridge, and then I moved us to Edmonton for degree number two. I remember thinking how lucky I was to have a guy who was so willing to move all over the province in order to help me pursue my dreams.

We got engaged in February, our final month of living in Edmonton. The day after Valentine’s Day! The store called him and said my ring was ready on the evening of Valentine’s Day and that he could pick it up the next day! Luckily for us, we were planning to celebrate Valentine’s a day later anyway. I made us a nice meal and afterwards, he played a song that we consider “our song” from when we weren’t even dating yet. He got down on one knee in the middle of our tiny apartment kitchen and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. It was simple and low-key, and exactly what I wanted. We spent the rest of the night making phone calls and watching the Grammys!

We’re obviously very excited about our upcoming elopement in Banff. It’s going to be very similar to our engagement- simple and low-key. We just look forward to being married and starting the rest of our lives together!
