Julia + Kevin’s Inglewood Bird Sanctuary Calgary Wedding
Julia + Kevin are an absolutely amazing couple! When we initially met I knew right away we were going to have a blast on their Calgary wedding day. I’m pretty sure we spent most of the day laughing and their wedding party was SO much fun as well! You can tell how much love surrounds them. Their family and friends were filled with emotion and treated me like family. We worried about rain since the weather was not forgiving that weekend, but the day of the wedding arrived and we had a perfect day. I really enjoyed getting to share in their happy day and capture their memories. They are truly one of those couples that reminds me why I absolutely LOVE my ‘job’ so much (Julia even put up with my unrelenting Game of Thrones jokes….don’t worry we’ll make a fan of you yet!)

How did you meet?
Working as lifeguards at the Calgary Winter Club. We meet in September 2011 and worked every Monday together. We started dating in July 2012.
Engagement story: Kevin proposed at the Hotel Arts in Kensington on Canada day 2017 after a delicious dinner at Modern Steak – we were celebrating our anniversary! We walked along the river after calling our families and watched the fireworks on the bridge.
The Wedding Day
Our theme was simple & elegant – We are not ones to be flashy and don’t love being the center of attention, we wanted to keep it simple and feel comfortable throughout the wedding!
We kept the décor to a minimum – just the bouquets and few floral arrangements for the diner as the ceremony venue was beautiful on its own. We had a tribute to Kevin’s late grandparents with a sign and a flower on a chair for them, both sets of grandparents meant a lot to Kevin so it was important to include them in the ceremony. My grandparents also were a part of the ceremony, walking down the isle before the bridal party to show their significance in my life.
The wedding was kept to close family and a few special friends, 30 people total including the 8 in the wedding party and ourselves. We wanted to keep it small for the size of the ceremony location and to celebrate with the people who had the biggest impact in our lives.
The best moment of the wedding was walking down the isle, Kevin was so impatient to see me that he stood on his tip toes to peek over the crowd to get a glimpse of me walking before I came into his view. That was the cutest. The next best thing for me was hearing Kevin’s vows, they were so heartfelt and sweet. Kevin said his favourite part was the first moment he saw me coming down the isle and then when we said “I do”!
We don’t really have a wedding song but the song we walked back up the isle to was Home by Edward sharpe & the magnetic zeros – this song means a lot to us because when we first started dating Kevin would always send me song suggestions and send new songs for me to listen to. This song was one of the songs he had sent to me at the very beginning and was always on our work playlist that we listened to every Monday – every time the song comes on we cant help but smile and sign along.
The honeymoon will be 1 week in Belgium (Bruges and Brussels) then into Italy for 2 weeks (Verona, Florence, Sienna, and Rome). We chose Belgium for the beer – we both share a love for craft beer, especially Belgium beer. Then Italy because Kevin’s favourite place to visit is Florence and I have never been, he wanted to show me around his favourite city!
