How much time for wedding portraits?
I am often asked by my lovely clients how much time they should dedicate to their wedding portraits portion of the day. I’ve blogged before about tips to planning your photography experience, but timing wasn’t looked at in depth. To include family, wedding party and the bride and groom to the best of my ability it really depends on the size of the wedding.
When deciding on your wedding package it is so important to take into consideration the wedding party and family size. The larger the wedding party and family to be included in the pictures, the longer the process will take. Also, ask yourself if you would like to take photographs at more than one location. Often, a photographer’s coverage time begins when they arrive, so if you are planning to travel to more than one location this could eat some of your coverage time up.
How many people are going to be in your family portraits?
Typically, for an average sized family with parents, siblings, grandparents and perhaps aunt’s or uncles, I usually recommend at least an hour to hour and a half for the family portion. Typically, it is best if these photos commence right after your ceremony (or before!) so that everyone is already there and doesn’t have to travel twice.
How many people are going to be in your wedding party portraits?
I usually recommend about an hour and a half for bridal party (including bride and groom) to have their portraits done. Again, if you are considering having another location, try to allocate even more time. Driving from location to location is something to consider. In all, usually about 2-3 or hours is perfect. This way, you can enjoy the experience without being rushed, and really allow your photographer to capture all of the beautiful moments and details.
