Deane House Sunset Wedding Calgary
How did you meet?
We were set up on a bling date by a mutual friend. After a month of talking on the phone, we got together to hike in Jasper. We were stargazing at Medicine Lake (best date ever) when we talked about dating seriously!
Engagement story:
Three years later, we were driving to Calgary to visit Evan’s family and he took a detour away from the Icefields parkway back to the spot on Medicine Lake. There was a moment where I realized he had taken the wrong road. I didn’t clue into what might be happening until we were near the lake. I suddenly wished I had worn something a little nicer that day as I was in full road trip mode! It was the perfect proposal and very us.
The Wedding Day:
This was our third or fourth attempt at getting married during COVID. Like many couples in the same position we running out of steam. That was until we discovered Deane House with all of its heritage charm, amazing food, and English garden. Our plans once again took on vibrancy and shape. Due to COVID restrictions at the time of planning, we went for an intimate wedding of only 20 people. It was difficult not having many of our loved ones there, but still felt their warmth and support all throughout this process and especially on the day!
Deane House offers a colourful backdrop which we didn’t feel we need to overpower with a strong colour scheme, so we aimed for natural colours, like blues, whites and greens. These were reflected in our clothing and decor. My wonderful creative mum offered early on to make the table centerpieces. She pulled these off beautifully on the day of the wedding. Other design details were found at vintage markets.
After looking online, I discovered the wonderful Lyn from Floral artistry. She pulled off some last-minute magic and managed to include beautiful blue delphiniums from Italy. Impulsively, I decided to go for a light touch of blue in my bouquet and I am so glad I did. We had only a month remaining to plan and we left finding a photographer to the very last minute. With some very strong luck we were able to book Nicole Sarah. After obsessively reading her blog and looking at her portfolio online we were totally obsessed. We were so grateful to have her capture our most special day. She made us laugh and feel totally relaxed.
Evan chose“Brown Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison as our song. I walked out to an instrumental version. We ended the ceremony with the original version. He felt the carefreeness and joyfulness of the song represents our relationship.
