How to create a wedding guest list

How to create a wedding guest list

Creating a wedding guest list can be one of the most daunting tasks in planning a wedding. It can be hard to know who to invite and who to leave off the list, especially when you have limited space or budget restrictions. To help make the process a bit easier, here are some tips on how to create a wedding guest list.

Make a first draft list

First, decide who you really want to have at your wedding. This should include your closest family and friends, as well as any important people in your life. Make sure to include your wedding party, and consider any other people that you feel are important to you. If you’re having a small wedding, focus on the people who mean the most to you and who you would want standing up with you at the altar.

A “must” list

Second, create a list of people you must invite. This includes immediate family, close friends, and any out-of-town guests. Remember to consider your partner’s side of the family, too. While it’s up to you to decide who you invite, it’s important to keep in mind any potential hurt feelings that may occur if someone is not invited.

Extended family and friends list

Third, make sure to add any additional guests to your list. This includes coworkers, neighbours, and extended family. It’s up to you how many of your coworkers or neighbours you want to invite, but it’s important to at least include those who you interact with regularly. Also, consider any additional people in your partner’s life that you feel should be invited, such as their co-workers or neighbors.

Budget

Fourth, be mindful of your budget. If you’re having a small wedding, you may need to limit the number of guests due to budget constraints. When deciding who to invite, think about who you can’t imagine getting married without, and who is closest to you. Also consider any out-of-town guests and family members who may have to travel in order to attend.

Finally, make sure to double-check your list. Once you’ve created your list, go over it to make sure you’ve included everyone you wanted to invite and that you haven’t left anyone off. It’s also important to have someone else look it over to make sure you didn’t miss anything.

Creating a wedding guest list can be a stressful task, but it doesn’t have to be. With proper planning and thoughtfulness, you can create a list of guests that you’re comfortable with, and that reflects your relationship with each individual.
