Sparkling Spruce Meadows Wedding
Lucy and John’s wedding at Spruce Meadows an absolute dream! We love shooting at Spruce Meadows. It makes for stunning wedding portraits. They both have big families that surrounded them with so much love and tradition on their day. It was truly beautiful. Their wedding was absolutely shimmering with gorgeous copper and rose gold tones in their decor that complimented their white and blush flowers. The wedding reception was filled with warmth and beauty! I am so excited to share their wedding blog with you. Read more from the couple below!
How did you meet?
Father Lacombe High School – 1996
For John, it was love at first sight when Lucy sat in front of him in Social Studies class. Not so much for Lucy. She noticed John the day she got into a car accident in front of the school. Luckily she wasn’t hurt, but the car she was driving was pretty banged up. When John got wind of this he made a comment about how women don’t know how to drive! To this day he does not remember saying this. Lucy heard what he said and she immediately did not like him. So, that’s how the rest of high school went – John in love with Lucy, not knowing that she heard the “comment” that day, and Lucy not liking him. After high school Lucy and John went on with their separate lives. Twenty years later, their paths crossed and the story continues….
Engagement Story:
On our 3 month anniversary we went to dinner to the same place we had our first non-date. That’s a whole other story…
I had no idea this was coming that evening. All I knew was that this would most likely happen before the end of this year. He kept his cool during dinner.
After dinner I was going to suggest we go for a walk at our favorite spot in the city – Hillcrest Avenue lookout. It’s the best place to view the downtown skyline, but John was too excited and nervous. He couldn’t wait any longer to pop the question. We sat in his truck, he took my hand, looked in my eyes and said the sweetest things I will never forget. We both cried. It will forever be one of the happiest days of our lives. I can’t wait to see how the rest of our story unfolds…
The Wedding Day
Color theme for our wedding was Rose Gold, Gold and Black. Classic colors that go well together. With the reception being at the Horizon Pavilion in Spruce Meadows we knew the color theme would sparkle under the beautiful tent and large chandeliers. Magical place for a magical day.
150 guests loved the venue, food and overall experience.
I purchased a lot of the decor online. I did a lot of shopping on Etsy to personalize some of the decor. I love to scrapbook, so that is where the guest book/polaroid idea came from. Way before it became popular on pinterest.
The seating chart/door was my idea that stole from pinterest. My godfather had a spare door and he roughed it up, welded stands for it. Spray painted screws in rose gold so I could place the favors which was also the seating chart. The guests loved this idea.
The top of the door had a sign saying “Love is the Key” in Rose gold letters. I purchased a rose gold door plate that my godfather screwed on to finish the look of the door. On the door knob I make a sign which read, “Mr. & Mrs. Neves”. This door will be placed in my scrapbook room:)
The candy table was a hit not only with the children, but with the adults as well. I made the cake pops as I love to bake!
We did something special at our wedding ceremony. We had a memorial table with 8 roses. They were tagged with names of the loved ones who passed away but we knew they were there with us in spirit. We lit our baptism candles and together lit one large candle to represent us becoming one.
Then we took the roses and gave them to our relatives that are related to the ones who passed away.
Example: Both sets of John’s grandparents. One rose for his dad, and one for his mom. Etc.
Taking photos with the antique Ford vehicle will always be a favorite memory of our wedding day. Especially for me. I had my First Communion at 7 years old, my neighbor owned a Ford antique car and drove me around the block. I loved that car and asked him if he would drive me in the same car on my wedding day. That dream came true.
And with John being a mechanic, it was just perfect to have that be a part of our wedding and to take photos with the car that we will forever cherish. We are both car enthusiasts.
Our Wedding Song – A thousand years by Cristina Perri. The words in this song is perfect as we have waited what felt like a thousand years to find each other and be together. I cry every time I hear this song.
We cannot wait to take our honeymoon at the end of the year to Bora Bora. A breathtaking, place. A place we have always dreamed to go.
