Nikki + Kevin
We absolutely love being Calgary wedding photographers because of weddings like this! Our wedding photography associate Richelle shot this gorgeous day.
How did you meet?:
We both attended Capernwray Harbour, a small bible school located on Thetis Island, B.C. We barely talked during our first year, but grew closer over the next year, and started dating about a month before we left!
Engagement story:
We had been in a long distance for the past four years before we got married, so visits were infrequent, and we usually had to fly over to see each other. On this particular visit, Nikki flew down to Seattle for (American) Thanksgiving Break. One of the first mornings that trip, we took a short drive over to Snoqualmie Falls, a big waterfall near Kevin’s home. We had brunch at the lodge overlooking the falls, then took a short hike down to the base of the water. I (Kevin) waited an excruciatingly long time for people to clear out, but as it got even more crowded, we walked down closer down by the river, where I popped the question! We’re so excited to have finally closed the distance after all this time!
For our wedding, we decided for the theme to be a combination of elegant and rustic. We wanted to combine the typical formality of a wedding while recalling Nikki’s experience of growing up in the country. Burgundy and gray were the main colors we used throughout the wedding. We decided to do a first look which made the moment of seeing each other for the first time special. We had the ceremony at a small country church with 120 guests, many whom had travelled from all over the world to come and celebrate our special day with us. Our reception was at Living Springs Bible Camp, a place that Nikki had grown up going to every summer. One of our favorite moments from the reception was when Mr. Dubland (Nikki’s dad) spoke. Along with a heartfelt speech, he had made a little mechanical contraption to use with it, that had everyone in tears (from laughter).
In lieu of a dance, we decided to have a coffee & tea bar, along with games that the guests could play. It allowed us the opportunity to reconnect with friends, some of whom we had not seen for years. To end the night, we had a beautiful sunset!
The Honeymoon!
We spend 2 beautiful weeks exploring Switzerland and Germany right after the wedding. We had several friends in Germany (some of whom attended the wedding), and a few of them kindly invited us to spend a few nights at their homes while they showed us around.
