Desert Spring Engagement Session

In the Arizona desert one might think that it’s completely desolate and without life, but that is simply not the case, it’s spring in the desert these days! As a Calgary wedding photographer, I shoot primarily in the Canadian Rockies but every once an a while I am lucky enough to shoot in new (and familiar) places that bring a renewed sense of freshness to my portfolio, and my heart. Being that I am typically in the same place working all the time, my eyes can become a bit tired and have trouble noticing new locations, or nuances within those spaces that I might not have seen without having taken a break and trying something completely different in a different landscape.

I absolutely love bohemian desert weddings and engagements and this Desert Spring Engagement session really ties into that cultural yet bohemian and relaxed engagement vibe. I love the different texture combinations and the playfulness this engagement photography session exudes. In one of my previous posts, I talked about how important it is to really mesh your wardrobe with your location, personalities and the background. Not every session needs to have a dress but it is important for everything to mesh so you still have that elevated feel. This was a little out of the box for me and I’m really happy with the results. When I think about Arizona and the desert, I think about the traditional Native American peoples, pueblos, and most importantly -color – and how that can all tie in to the landscape!
