Wedding Venue Hacks

As Calgary wedding photographers we receive many questions on how to create or find the perfect wedding venue. So let’s say as a couple, you have finally found your venue. The size is great for your guest count and they are available. However, the carpet is horrible and all of their decor and colour schemes clash with your theme. We asked our favourite wedding professionals for some hacks that will ensure your vision comes to life!

Calgary Wedding Planner Melissa of Melissa Dawn Events shared with us some of her favourite hacks below.

Problem: Venue chairs

“I’m a big advocate of renting chairs that fit your style. Settling for a venue’s dated chairs that make you cringe is not your only option. The style of your chairs will elevate your overall aesthetic and ensure you have a cohesive design. If you want a sleek, minimalist look I love the Ghost chair or Delano chair. Going for a more elegant feel? Consider the Louis XV chair or Chiavari chair.”

Problem: Venue is large, want it to feel intimate

“Filling up a large venue space can seem like a daunting task and it’s something we’ve dealt with before. A few ways I’ve worked to make your space more intimate is by using partitions or drapes to block off a portion of the room so it doesn’t look so empty. My favourite way to utilize the space is by adding lounge furniture, side tables and coffee tables to create different lounge areas. Guests love having a chic and comfy place to sit and catch up with friends and family. I always suggest adding extra floral arrangements to add to the coffee tables for an elegant look.”

Problem: Room colours clash

“If you’re absolutely set on having this venue, then there must be a good reason for it. I always suggest choosing your colours and theme after the venue is secured. It’s important to take the room, style and colours into consideration when developing your wedding style. It’s always best to work with the venue colours rather than ignoring them. That way you avoid having a chaotic or let’s face it, cringey wedding design.
If you’re really set on your wedding colours, you can look into pipe and drapes to cover the walls, adding in flooring to cover the ugly carpet or having a hanging installation incorporated to draw your eyes away from what you don’t like.”wedding venue hacks, wedding chairs, wedding style, wedding planning advice
