Gorgeous Spring Wedding in Calgary

Last year a beautiful, amazing, sweet and kind-hearted woman named Jennifer sent me an email. We had a skype call, and after giggling about her wedding (and my pets who decided they were part of the call) for an hour – I knew I had met someone very special. I met Corey (who is equally as amazing) soon after at their engagement session and I instantly knew exactly why they fell in love. There’s really no other way to describe it as powerful. Corey and Jennifer complete each other. They understand each other in a quiet, humbling way that is so beautiful to see.

I am so happy to have made some lovely new friends and capture their special day!

How We Met:

Corey and I both attended the University of Lethbridge and lived in the student residents building, actually living next door to each other. The first night of living there, I walk into my room and there he is, having a drink with my new roommates. All I could think was, “oh dear, this guy is cute!” And we spent the whole night flirting and ended up holding hands on the cab right home. It was lust at first sight for the boy next door!

 

Engagement story:

After months of house hunting, we finally found a duplex to call home. We did weeks of renovating and updating, then finally got to move in on March 18th. We unpacked our things, settled in with an episode of Survivor, then Corey says he’s planned something romantic. He asks me to wait downstairs while he “set up” in our bedroom. Then he calls me up, and as I’m climbing the stairs he says, “Did you know you make me the happiest man in the world? I think this house is going to be perfect for us, because we get to spend every day together. I love you.” Then I open the door, and he’s down on one knee asking, “Will you marry me?” Of course, I say yes! And turns out his “setting up” was him getting the whole thing on video so I could treasure the moment forever!

 

Favorite Wedding Moments:

1) Getting to see all of our guests interact together at the reception. We jumbled up the tables of family and friends, and immediately the guests hit it off. Cousin tables would challenge others to drinks, or try and see who could cheer the loudest. Friends would dance with a random person they’d just met, and really enjoy themselves. It was a spontaneous and fun environment, and was amazing to witness a room full of people come together as one, just as Corey and I did.

2) The special anniversary dance for Jen’s aunt and uncle, who celebrated 33 years of marriage on the same date as us. They had no idea that we found out their first dance song and planned to give her the toss bouquet, so getting to see their face and reactions to that moment was something truly special.

3) Sunset photos were wonderful. It was at a point in the evening that Corey and I really just needed a moment to take a break from the crowd, so we were so thankful when Nicole asked us to step outside. The way the area was located, there were buildings all around, so we ended up taking the photos on the abandoned playground nearby, which was so fun! Getting to go on a slide all dressed up was a moment of pure joy and silliness, and one that we’ll remember forever.
Our first dance song was “Collide”. It made us both tear up when we were looking for a first dance song, because we wanted it to be something meaningful to us but we never really had “a song”. This one seemed to capture how raw and real our relationship was; it wasn’t always easy, each of us went through stages of doubt and struggle through the long distance, yet we always made it worked and knew deep down that we belong. We were brought together and had an instant and fast attraction, it just happened and stuck. We grew together and became best friends, helping each other through whatever struggles faced us. Life isn’t always easy or perfect, but you make it work and embrace the love you are given.
