Jenna + Nicholas – Cornerstone Theatre Canmore
I absolutely love being a Canmore wedding photographer because of weddings like Jenna and Nicholas’ at Cornerstone Theatre!
You guys. I can’t even! That’s the only way I know how to start this. Get ready for my LONGEST blog post ever! Jenna and Nic are absolutely amazing. From the first time we met you could see the intense spark between these two, and on their wedding day the love that filled the air was palpable. I had so much fun getting to know them and feel honoured that they chose me to share their special day with them. I also need to give a shout out to their INCREDIBLE wedding party who were so fun to hang out with and really treated these two like royalty on their big day. They even put up with all of that romantic wind during our formals! Alright, enough from me – you guys want the juicy stuff! I hope you enjoy their story below and the sneak peek into their beautiful wedding. xo
How Did You Meet?
We both have mutual friends in Martensville, SK, but our paths had never really crossed. Our lives had taken us in different directions. Nic was finishing engineering degree while I was feeding my travel bug that was taking me to the opposite side of the world. Like any young traveler I came home, with an empty bank account, with the full intention of jumping on the next cheapest flight out of the country. Then Nic happened!
Our mutual friends brought us to the same local bar one summer night. I must have made a lasting impression on Nic because a few days later I received a message. I was coming back from a Saskatchewan Roughriders game, wearing a bunnyhug (hehe), and I assume Nic was out with his buddies sippin’ on pilsners. We chatted about our summer, made plans and have been inseparable ever since!!
The Engagement Story!
December 30, 2016! That year Nic decided to plan something special for us and spend New Year’s in Banff with some close friends. This was something I had always dreamed of doing! Unknowingly, Nic has booked us in for a spa day at the Fairmont Banff Springs Resort followed by supper. I was starting to get a little suspicious, but this wasn’t totally uncommon of Nic to plan things like this. We were both getting ready for a romantic night out, and while I was putting on my normal “going out” outfit I was confused why Nic was getting dressed to the nines in his dress pants, shirt and tie. We arrived at this beautiful restaurant that overlooked the town and valley. It wasn’t until after dinner while leaving the restaurant that Nic popped the question! That night consisted of tears of joy followed by a few bottles of champagne!
The next day was celebrated with a night on the town with close friends bringing in the New Year as a newly engaged couple!
The Wedding Day!
Our wedding theme was nature & mountain inspired. From our forest greenery table runners, to our white ivory roses scattered throughout the venue. Our candles added the perfect sense of romance, and maple candies to show our love for this beautiful country. We decided to stay very neutral, to not distract our guests from the natural beauty of Canmore. Our guest count was at 142. We decided to keep our wedding an adult-only night, so that our guests could really enjoy their evening out. We had 4 little girls attend the wedding, and three of them were in the wedding party.
Our top moments were when we were saying our vows and the sun peaked out of the rain-threatening weather to grant us a blessing! Our first dance was romantic, and filled with love. We danced to Work Song by Hozier. It was an honour to be shown so much love throughout the evening with all of our caring friends and family. The PowerPoint had everyone in tears, and brought so many happy love filled memories of us. Our favorite details were embedded in the community of Canmore itself, we got engaged in the mountains, and wanted to say our “I do’s” in the presence of the snow covered peaks.
The Epic Honeymoon!
Our honeymoon plans consisted of going to Europe for two weeks. We spent the first week drinking gin and tonics on the island of Mallorca, Spain. We listened to great music, filled our bellies with seafood, and soaked in the sun. We splurged and rented a convertible car to cruise one of the most scenic (and narrow!) roads on the island, finding all the hidden beaches along the way. After our time in Spain, we flew into Italy, and took a train along the coastline to Sorrento. In Sorrento, we ate endless amounts of pasta, lobster, and sea bass. We spent the days shopping, swimming and touring the town. From Sorrento, we took a ferry to the Positano, a beautiful Italian city nestled along the cliffs in Italy. The majority of our time here was spent drinking Prosecco on the beaches and eating pizza! After a few days of beach living, we took a ferry to Capri, the island where lemon , and orange tree’s grow in abundance. Our time on Capri was spent gazing out of our coastal hotel at the beautiful beaches, along with renting a private boat for the day where we toured the islands hot spots! We ate their signature salad “Caprese” daily which consisted of buffalo mozzarella cheese, basil, and fresh tomatoes, drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Our vacation ended in Venice while riding down the canals in a gondola, and embracing the historical buildings!
