Danielle + Mike – Starbelly Wedding

We love being Calgary wedding photographers because it means photographing beautiful weddings all over our city.

was such a joy to shoot at.

How did you meet?

Our stars and moons aligned on Tinder! Definitely a successful “swipe wright” story ????

Engagement story:

We love our Sunday Funday traditions – coffee and a crossword on the patio, beer tasting, snowshoeing – any activity!

One Sunday Funday, Mike planned a day hike out at Heart Mountain, and proposed after we shared lunch at the top. Nervous Mike was waiting for the crowd to clear, but it was such a gorgeous, sunny day that the amount of people making their way to the summit only increased as the day went on – needless to say my acceptance was followed by cheering and a round of applause from our audience of strangers.

The Wedding Day:

As fair-weather folks, we wanted a wedding that was indoors, where we wouldn’t have to battle nature’s elements (jokes on us, it poured rain all day up until the afternoon of our ceremony, but then the sky cleared for a gorgeous evening). We also wanted something simple and elegant that brought in an element of our personal interests, so we were fortunate enough to book our ceremony and reception at our favourite date-night spot- Starbelly! We love Starbelly’s décor, charm, service, and above all – food and drinks. Mike especially loves their craft beer selection. Our colors were dusty blues and greys, to keep with the tone of the venue.

We had about 90 guests in total, our closest friends and family. Top moments were our ceremony – we spent a lot of time writing our vows, and it was very important to share them with each other in front of our loved ones. We also loved being able to connect with our friends and family after the craziness of the day, over our favorite cocktails at the bar and on the dance floor.

Our wedding song is “No One” by Sundance Head, a cover of Alicia Keys’ classic that we heard on one of our favourite shows, The Voice. We both loved this version of the song!

Our favourite details were Mike’s floral tie, my custom made jewelry, the signs we had made to reflect our story (Tindered Spirits cocktail menu, #swipedwright hashtag, the cheesie and nibs snack mix for our wedding favors).

We left almost right away for our honeymoon, on the Monday afternoon. We set off for a roadtrip through Ireland and a quick hop over to Scotland for Whiskey tasting (we served Old Fashioneds for our dessert cocktail – one of our faves).
