Julie + Adam – Calgary Zoo Wedding
We love being Calgary wedding photographers because it means we get to capture gorgeous weddings at The Calgary Zoo! There’s always so much to capture there as a wedding photographer. Read about their story below!
How Did you Meet?!:
We both went to the same high school and were lucky enough to have met through mutual friends 🙂
The Engagement Story!:
Ever since our first date in 2009, we have been saving souvenirs from our dates (movie tickets, concert programs, etc.). For quite a while, I had wanted to create a “relationship scrapbook” to preserve all of our wonderful memories together and finally in the summer of 2018 we both had enough time that we could start working on it together.
One night, Adam came over to my place, cooked me my favorite dinner, and poured us wine. He then suggested that we start on the scrapbook together. We reminisced as we sorted through our dating memories and finally it was time to start in the pages. I grabbed the scrapbook, thinking that it was completely empty, but when I opened it I found that Adam had created the first page in the scrapbook already with the question “Will you marry me?” on it. He pulled out the ring and the rest is history!
The Wedding Day:
We had an amazing time at our wedding! After a few days of rain we were a little concerned about the weather for our big day, but were lucky enough to wake up to sun and a blue sky! The beautiful weather matched our color scheme perfectly – a cheerful and summery combination of bright pink, orange, and yellow.
We chose to have our wedding at the Calgary Zoo, the same place we had our very first date (Zoo Lights!). Our ceremony was held in the gardens and our favorite part was the peacock who decided to join us! He stood up at the front with us and even fanned his tail in celebration of our marriage (or at least that’s what I like to think!).
Our 120 wedding guests joined us in the ENMAX Conservatory reception hall for a delicious dinner and cake. We were excited, not only for the beautiful cake, but for the bear and koala custom cake topper that subtly tied our wedding into the Zoo and represented our nicknames for each other. All the floral arrangements for our wedding were wonderful but, the first thing I noticed when stepping into the reception hall was the lush, vibrant arrangement on our sweetheart table that displayed our wedding colors beautifully. Our first dance together was to an instrumental version of “Bella Notte” from Lady and the Tramp. This song was perfect as the movie has always been a favorite of mine and we always watch Disney movies together!
We’re so excited for all of the adventures that we’ll get to share together in the years ahead!
